Date: 1st April, 2023- An orientation workshop on hospital-based substance use disorders (SUD) treatment and care service package

In preparation towards the expansion of the Hospital-based treatment and care services to Phuntsholing Hospital, The PEMA Secretariat successfully conducted a five-day orientation workshop on the hospital-based substance use disorders (SUD) treatment and care package at Hotel Palm, Phuntsholing from 27-31 March 2023.  A total of 16 participants comprising medical doctors, psychiatric/emergency nurses, Drungtsho, school counsellors, peer counsellor, recovery volunteers and a police officer attended the orientation workshop.

The workshop began with a simple opening on Monday 27 March 2023. Hon’ble Thrompon of Phuntsholing Thromde graced the opening as the Chief guest. The event was also attended by senior Police officials (SSP and Traffic OC) from Division III, Chief Medical Officer, and Administrative officer from Phuntsholing cluster hospital; and Offtg. TEO and School Principals from Phuntsholing thromde schools. The workshop concluded with a simple closing session, yesterday. Dr. Dorji Tshering, CMO of Phuntsholing Hospital graced the closing as the Chief Guest. As an outcome of this consultation/orientation workshop, the hospital-based SUD treatment and care services will be rolled out at on a trial basis for one-month w.e.f. 14th April to 31st March 2023.

The Hospital-based SUD Treatment and Care Services, launched by Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen on October 10, 2022 aspires to offer an increased access to evidence-based treatment and provide an effective referral pathway for persons with SUD through a continuum of care approach.
