The division’s core mandate is promotion of mental health and prevention of mental disorders. Division’s efforts are hinged around promotion of protective factors for mental health and wellbeing, implementing preventive interventions, conducting research, strengthening information system, and enhancing mental health services. Our focus is on reducing the burden of mental health and ensuring that accessible and high-quality mental health services are available in the country. The division’s prevention and promotion strategies will be guided by tenets of multi-sectoral collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and a life-course approach.

Our priority interventions encompass promoting healthy lifestyles and choices to enhance mental health, reducing stigma and discrimination faced by individuals affected by mental health issues, early identification of individuals at risk for timely intervention, and strengthening integrated mental health services. Additionally, prioritization is given to strengthening research and information systems for mental health to support evidence-based interventions and informed decision-making.
