Enhancing Mental Health Services for Children

As part of our commitment to proactive prevention and improved care for children facing mental health and cognitive challenges, The PEMA Secretariat with the expertise of Dr. George, HVO volunteer, and national expert, supported by the Bhutan Foundation, have introduced the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC) at the Department of Psychiatry, NMS.
This initiative will enhance early identification and timely management of intellectual and developmental concerns in children, ensuring they receive the support and care at the earliest.
A core team of psychiatrists and clinical counselors has completed the training on the tool to be rolled out at the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu. In coming months, in collaboration with NMS, the services are being planned to be introduced in the two regional referral hospitals (Mongar & Gelephu).
Together, we’re building a brighter, healthier future for our children!
