19th May 2025: Advancing Justice Through Understanding Mental Health and Child Protection

The PEMA Secretariat, in collaboration with the Bhutan National Legal Institute, is conducting a three-day workshop on Mental Health and Child Protection. This program addresses critical issues related to mental health and child protection, with the goal of building a justice system that is more informed, compassionate, and responsive to the needs of vulnerable populations.
A total of 61 participants comprising Hon’ble Registrar Generals of the Supreme Court and High Court, Director General of Bhutan National Legal Institute, 27 Judges and 18 Assistant Judges from the Dzongkhag and Dungkhag Courts, 11 Court Registrars, and 4 Legal Officers are taking part in the workshop.
Throughout the workshop, the participants will explore mental health care, child protection, addiction trauma-informed care, child-sensitive practices, and the intersection of mental health and law. By deepening their understanding in these areas, legal professionals will be better equipped to provide people-centered services and deliver informed legal opinions and decisions that uphold dignity, protection, and access to justice.
