In continuation to the National Multistakeholder Consultation held in Paro from December 4-6, 2023, a group of drug demand and supply reduction experts reviewed the draft National Response to Address Substance Use Issues from December 19-20, 2023.
The experts included Mr. Phuntsho Wangdi, former Director General of the erstwhile BNCA; Colonel Dorjee Khandu, DNY, Senior Superintendent of Police, Narcotic Drugs and Other Vices Division; Dr. Chencho Dorji, Professor of Psychiatry, KGUMSB; and Ms. Naina Kala Gurung, Prevention Specialist/Master Trainer, Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program. This expert consultation was held in preparation for upcoming bilateral consultations with the stakeholders.
The opening session was graced by Ms. Peldon Tshering, Director of The PEMA Secretariat on December 19, 2023, while Dasho Nim Tshering, Zimpon Wom and Hon’ble Member of The PEMA Board graced the closing session on December 20, 2023.
The National Response to Address Substance Use Issues is envisioned as a Strategic Document that will guide Bhutan’s effort to reduce the demand and supply of substances for the next 10 years. The Document will contain short-term and long-term targets in conformity with the 13th Five Year Plan and Long-term Plan of the Royal Government of Bhutan, besides also charting out a three-year action plan. The document is expected to be finalized in March 2024.
