When a family is in trouble, help shouldn’t be a long journey away. That is the promise behind Gewog Protection Services.

The PEMA Secretariat has completed induction training for its first cohort of Gewog Administration Officers (GAOs) from Paro, Chukha, Haa and Samtse.

They will now identify, assess and manage protection cases in their own gewogs, with technical guidance and supervision from our Protection Officers. Since GAOs know their communities, concerns can be noticed earlier and people can get the right support sooner, right where they live.

Four more cohorts will train in October and November, taking the service to all 205 gewogs across Bhutan. With support from the Royal Civil Service Commission and the Department of Local Governance and Disaster Management.
